Therapy benefits

"Everyone's therapy journey is different"

How can therapy help?

Talking therapies can help people in a whole range of different ways. Most often it is accessed when people are having a hard time, but I believe talking therapy can help everybody in one way or another. It can be an important part of emotional growth and working towards the best version of yourself.

Therapy is a process of meeting with a qualified therapist to establish goals specific to you and working together each step of the way to achieve these. Therapy allows people to talk about, and change, destructive behaviours or habits, difficult thoughts, painful beliefs, and feelings. This can include working through specific life experiences and/or improving relationships with others or yourself.

Therapy isn’t linear. Everybody’s journey is very different, which is why it is important therapy is tailored to you.

I want you to know that I offer a safe non-judgmental space, to give you time to talk, think, cry, shout and make sense of what is going on for you. This process can often allow you to find your own answers to your problems.

Although there are many different types of therapies, they all have the same aim; to make you feel better. I offer one to one therapy, either face to face or online.

What are the benefits of therapy?

One of the most pleasing and beneficial benefits of therapy is identifying the root cause of the difficulties you are having. This can be incredibly liberating, cathartic and allows for long-term behaviour change. Not getting to the root cause of problems can be like putting a plaster on an infected wound. It may help a little in the short term, but in the long term it won’t allow the wound to heal.

One of most rewarding things to see is people learning to live their lives again, doing things they haven’t done for years or always wanted, but most importantly achieving goals they thought were beyond their reach.

Therapy can also help you:

  • Improve communication skills
  • Take control
  • Change negative thinking patterns and alter negative behaviours
  • Make and maintain relationships
  • Enable you to think differently
  • Learn to resolve conflict
  • Develop coping skills and strategies
  • Improve productivity

What is the therapeutic relationship?

Starting therapy can be daunting and having therapy can be difficult at times also. So, it is important to have a space where you are understood, feel comfortable and can say what you think and feel without judgement; to be able to freely express yourself. That’s why connection and building a relationship with your therapist is really important.

Your relationship with me will be confidential and not only focus on the content of what you want to discuss but also the therapeutic process. The therapeutic process is making sense of how you share your feelings and your experiences which can at times be just as vital as other concerns.

A therapeutic relationship allows for you to reflect, make sense of what’s going on, what has gone on and perhaps where you’re going – all in all, enabling you to understand yourself better.

I provide a safe space and free consultation so you can get to know me, and I can get to know you. Talking about what your goals are and what you want from therapy is important and allows us to think about what type of therapy will be most helpful and what your therapy journey might look like.

What should you expect?

The first steps are...

  • To fill in the contact form and you will be offered a free 30 minute telephone consultation.
  • We can then go on to arrange a 60 minute or 90 minute online initial meeting, dependant on your needs.
  • When we first meet we will talk about your reasons for coming to therapy and potentially specific things or goals you would like to work on (don't worry if you can't think of any goals this is very normal). We will discuss the type of therapy which might be best suited to you at this meeting.
  • We can then arrange a day and time to meet regularly, and you can begin your therapy journey!
